Hello, everyone! Well, I've gone and done it. I know, I know … there aren't enough hours in the day as it is, and now I'm adding yet another project. But this is different - this I'm only doing once in awhile, and it's doing something I feel strongly about, which is helping writers become better at their craft and give them more confidence.
So, beginning March 1, my editing window will open for one week. Send me your drabble(s) and I'll do a line by line edit and a detailed critique, highlighting strengths and weaknesses. And if you're drabble happens to be poetry, I'll tell you that, too, and explain what makes it poetic opposed to a story.
Details…
My fee for this editing service will be fair - $7/per drabble or 2/$10…
Payment can be made at the payment links (which are at the end of this newsletter)…
Once you've paid, send your drabble(s) to:
Glynnbrownwriter@gmail.com
Stories will be edited on a first come, first serve basis…
Expect your edited piece with critique to be returned no later than March 31…
If you miss this editing window or wish to have more pieces edited, I'll open again in May…
Any questions, please reach out to the same email address as above…

As far as I know, I am one of the few, if not only, editors offering these services on drabbles alone. I know there are microfictionists that conduct writing workshops, offer writing prompts, sponsor contests, and surely offer critique as part of their service… but I can't recall ever seeing an editor focus solely on the drabble in the same way they would a manuscript. And that's what I'm aiming to do…
I really wish more lit mag editors were 1. More educated themselves on the art of microfiction (especially if they actively accept it) and 2. Were more honest with writers and better explained when lines are crossed between poetry and story, rather than just “blindly” accepting or quickly dismissing the pieces.
It's because an editor not only pointed out my error in submitting poetry as drabble, but explained how/why it was of more poetic, that I sought out more understanding and wanted to improve my skills… had I just been rejected (over and over), I would have just thought I was a bad drabble writer - or maybe a bad writer in general. And I don't want that to happen to anyone else!
So, if you're a drabble writer who has had some difficulty getting pieces placed or are new to the drabble and uncertain if you're doing it right, consider getting a second-opinion… you can ask anyone who's submitted work to Micromance and they'll tell you I offer feedback on most pieces and that feedback, positive or constructive, is always honest and kind… and I'll be no different with you.
And whatever you send in for critique and edit does not have to be romance. This service is for all drabble, regardless of theme and genre.
So, if you're interested, the window opens March 1st to the 7th…
