Happy New Year, Everyone! Hope 2025 brings each and every one of you health, happiness and prosperity. And if you've been facing some struggles, maybe 2024 wasn't your year, here's hoping 2025 is your “Disney Year!” That's the wish my best friend and I used to give each other years ago, meaning we hoped the next year was full of love and music and happy endings - of course, some cute singing woodland critters to clean the house wouldn't be turned away! 😂
Exciting News….
2025 will see the beginning of MM Publishing, the name that all Micromance Magazine anthologies will be printed under…
MM Publishing will also be the name The Cupid Prize Anthology is printed under….and not only that but MM Publishing is launching another awesome opportunity for flash fiction writers and romance writers to create some great flash romance…
Introducing…
KissMet Quarterly is a sweet romance digest that will publish 4x a year - January, April, July, October. Each digest will feature 10 sweet genre romance stories, 750-1200 words, and 1 romantically-focused cozy mystery/suspense (same word count). All stories will be seasonally themed - January the Winter issue, April the Spring and so on, with stories reflecting that season and/or the holidays within that time. A word search and crossword puzzle are also planned for each issue.
KissMet Quarterly will be a print digest, available per issue or as a yearly subscription, and will also be available as a digital subscription. Yearly subscriptions will include a matching bookmark with each issue and, as a welcoming gift, a promotional sticker pack will be included with the first issue. (More info on subscriptions will be coming very soon)
We are obviously not going to have a winter issue, the first issue being the Spring edition (2025 will only have 3 issues). But that means, submissions for the Spring issue open tomorrow, January 1 and continue until January 31. Being this is a new and sudden sub call, if someone needs an extra couple days, please just let me know and we'll figure it out.
For the Spring issue, think gardens, walks in the park, Easter, Passover, Cinco de Mayo, Prom, Mother's Day - anything to do with Springtime. Just keep it sweet for the romances and intrigue us with the mysteries (but don't forget the love interest 😍).
Detailed submissions info can be found here:
I have also created a newsletter for KissMet Quarterly. All of my Micromance Magazine subscribers will be automatically added. Feel free to unsubscribe if you are not interested in KissMet Quarterly. But I hope you do remain subscribed to both. Unlike Micromance Magazine that publishes pieces near daily, sending at least an email a day, KissMet Quarterly emails will be ~ once a month - one at the start of each month submissions are due, one in each month the digest is published, and a random promo, update, etc.
The idea for KQ came to me rather suddenly just a few weeks ago and after a lot of thinking (am I growing/expanding too quickly?), wondering (can I do this?) , asking advice, being offered behind-the-scenes help, etc., I decided that yes, I can do this - especially with all of you behind me. I feel so good about KQ’s potential success, and am so excited about its future!
And in case you're wondering, Micromance Magazine will continue operating just as it has, delivering the same great content it always has, supporting its contributors, being that place in the writing community where flash romance and romantic poetry is celebrated. KissMet is simply a sister publication, an extension of Micromance that will be just as supportive and fun, and I'm hoping they will work together to continue to bring attention to flash romance in both the indie writing community and in traditional romance circles.
All readers/contributors to Micromance are welcome to and encouraged to submit to KissMet - and to any special anthology calls we are planning for 2025.
Speaking of which…
A Special Sub Call…
Micromance will be a year old in June and we want to celebrate with an anthology!
“One Year Later…” will be an anthology of flash romance where the stories focus on “one year”… think a couple’s first anniversary, a baby's first birthday party…or how about a story where we see a couple meet and then we see them “one year later…”… or a business owner is celebrating one year in business and reconnects with an old beau at their customer appreciation celebration… however you can interpret “one year,” I want to see it. But remember to keep it a romance…
“One Year Later…” will also feature a list of all of Micromance’s contributors from the first year (July ‘24 to July ‘25) along with some highlights from the inaugural year…
Submissions open January 1 and run through March 31… Micromance Magazine's same guidelines apply - stories up to 1200 words… submit by sending a .doc/.docx to:
Micromancesubmissions@gmail.com
Just be sure to put Anniversary Anthology in the subject line!
Speaking of One Year Anniversary….
When I first hatched the idea of Micromance Magazine, the emphasis was on micro. It was going to be a lit mag for stories 200 words or less. I rethought it, and decided to include longer stories, which I am glad I did. However, my heart is still with Drabbles. I love writing them. I love reading them. And some of Micromance’s most popular pieces are 100 worders. I wish I received more drabble submissions and have had a few contributors who never wrote them, challenge themselves and come up with some bangers (Katie Fitzgerald’s “A Whamageddon Love Story” being an example)… so I encourage everyone to give it a try!
In keeping with the heart of MICROmance Magazine, I'd love to commemorate the anniversary of our first published piece - July 20 - by having a drabble deluge… one micro romance publishing each hour for 24 hours (from midnight to 11:59 pm July 20) with readers voting on their favorite… will there be a prize? 🤔 (Honestly, I don't know - the voting part just came to me as I was writing this …lol)
What do you think? I'm thinking, “Oh, yeah!” 😁… Me thinks I will have to do some more brainstorming… as one of my favorite people always says, stay tuned…!
In Closing…
I know this was a long newsletter full of a lot of new information. Like I've been saying, there's a lot planned for 2025… this is just the beginning!
January will see the return of “Herald Your Success” where at the end of each month I ask contributors past and present to share their literary successes for that month and I publish their news, their links, their wins, etc., in a special newsletter.
It's also been mentioned to me that it's a little more difficult in this flash romance world for writer's to find beta readers and critique partners for their short stories, short story collections, chapbooks, novellas (and even novels). I recently had a contributor ask if I knew if any of the other contributors would be interested in helping keep her on track with her manuscripts, and that shows how supportive people view this community and trust the others in it. And that's exactly what I was going for when I began Micromance. And so, I'm trying to figure out a “program” - a classified ads, so to speak, where people in need of a beta reader or critique partner can say, “Romantasy writer seeks beta reader for 20,000 word novella - must love dragons and elfin people.” Lol...you get the idea….if anyone is interested in such a program or has some ideas how to put it together (in chat, special newsletter, etc), let me know:

Put BR/CP Program in the subject line.
Is there anything else you'd like to see from Micromance? Author interviews? A podcast? Writing tips? Let me know!!

Well, I'll admit, I was a bit chattier than usual… but that's what excitement does to me 😄… as far as the the sub calls go, you'll see more posts on social media about them. But if anyone has any questions about KissMet Quarterly or anything else mentioned here, don't hesitate to reach out and ask…
