Hello, all! Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far. Mine could be better… but that's neither here nor there …
First off … I have taken a bit of a breather from Micromance and the fantastic Katie Fitzgerald has taken the reins, drafting, editing and scheduling pieces…. We had upwards of 100 pieces that had been accepted since December that needed scheduling and Katie has gotten that cut in half, having sent out 7 emails with publication dates and has so far filled the schedule well into June….
🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Secondly… submissions are temporarily closed until June 1 to allow me to read through the newest submissions and make decisions, and format the poetry anthology and KissMet Quarterly, while Katie continues to schedule the rest of the pieces….then in June we'll reopen as normal, and also be accepting holiday pieces..
Thirdly…. Beginning June 1, poetry submissions will be limited to one per person, per month… we receive more poems than anything and, unfortunately, this isn't a poetry only or even a poetry mostly publication…. It is a fiction magazine that likes to sprinkle in a bit of poetic vibes here and there …
Also, all writers will only be allowed to submit once per month - they can submit in multiple categories, but only one piece, per category, per month …
🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Fourth,…with the exception of basic proofreading, staff will no longer be able to edit/revise pieces. If anything beyond a typo or misplaced period is involved, the writer will be informed that their piece is on the maybe list and be given the opportunity to revise and resubmit… if a writer is really stumped or in need of editorial assistance/feedback, for a fee, Katie or I can assist. And no, this isn't about profiting, but it's about knowing who is being helped actually wants the help and appreciates the help and isn’t just taking for granted I'll rewrite their work. Doing a full edit/revision of even a 100 word drabble takes time… let alone a 1200 word story… a fee schedule will be available upon request….
🌷🌷🌷🌷
Fifth… Simultaneous Submissions are still a big NO. Guidelines have been updated again to emphasize this. Please, if you cannot wait up to 30 days to submit, do NOT submit. And, if a piece has already been submitted elsewhere, please, give that lit mag the respect they deserve and wait for an answer before submitting someplace else, especially here.
Also, once a piece has been accepted it cannot be withdrawn. If a “better” place has also accepted your piece, then you should have just submitted to them to begin with.
🌷🌷🌷🌷
Sixth…. Failure to follow any guidelines results in automatic rejection. Submit 2 Sweet Nothings in a month, they'll both be rejected. Submit 5 poems at a time, they will all be rejected. Submit 3 poems and a Quickie, all pieces rejected.
In regard to Sim Subs, if a piece is submitted and withdrawn prior to acceptance/rejection, writer risks automatic rejection of future submissions.
🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Seventh….Micromance is still and will always be for the writers…. But that doesn't mean the writers get to tell me or Katie what to do/how to run MM. We respond to you with respect and kindness, and expect the same in return. We also welcome questions, and will do our best to reply in a timely manner. But, if you've been notified your piece has been accepted and a publication date is forth coming, be advised that Katie works from oldest to newest in the inbox and if you reply to your acceptance a week later asking about a date, that will move your email up and may very well delay scheduling of your piece. For any inquiries, please send a new email to:

🌷🌷🌷🌷
Some of these updates may seem extreme to some, but unfortunately some writers have taken advantage of my kindness and support and, for my own mental health and that of Katie as well, I need to establish some boundaries.
I will continue to champion writers of flash romance, promote you and your accomplishments, as I did in the beginning… I will continue to promote Micromance Magazine and push it to keep growing… but as we grow, we need to allow every submitter opportunity to be published… this is why the new limit on poetry, to allow more fiction writers the chance to be read. Limits are also needed because we do our best to mix things up - not have all poetry in a week, not three quickies in a row, and not a month full of a particular contributor. We do have regular contributors, and they are always welcome, and I hope I never have to do any “if you were accepted this month, please skip a month before submitting again” kind of rules…. We love our regulars and they have a readership here. But we do want to make sure the person who's never submitted here before - or maybe ever - has a chance to be a part of Micromance.
I hope you all understand. Any questions, leave a comment or email

We thank you all for your continued support… and we look forward to publishing all of your work in the coming months and even years …
Thank you
