You let go. The penny scrapes against the interior of the coin spinner box. It follows a track of ever-decreasing spirals that lead to a centre hole. But not yet. The penny takes its time, moving in slow, excruciating circles. A familiar state for us.
I clear my throat.
“Cashing up done?” you ask.
I nod. “Your hot date didn’t show, huh?” I throw the keys.
You catch them. “Actually, they’ve just arrived. Mind you, they don’t seem to know it’s a date yet.”
I frown. “So why call me here?”
You tilt your head and wink. The penny drops.
