“A partridge. How cute.” A sweet gesture, she thought, but wasn’t exactly bowled over with romance.
Andrea opened the small red and green gift box bedecked with candy cane ribbons.
She lifted out the delicate golden charm in the shape of a bird. She was no ornithologist, but it dawned on her given the season it must be…
“A partridge. How cute.” A sweet gesture, she thought, but wasn’t exactly bowled over with romance.
Tom sensed some disappointment, which he expected. He grinned. “Keep digging.”
She lifted the crumpled paper in the bottom of the box under which was hidden a duplicate charm.
Tom’s smile widened. “Right song, wrong verse. They are turtle doves. Two of them, one to represent each of us. Together. Forever.”
Now that’s romantic, thought Andrea. But before she showed him how she felt it was her turn to have a little fun.
She reached again into the bottom of the box and rummaged around.
Tom was still smiling. “Sorry, that’s all there is. What are you looking for.”
Andrea drew him in for a kiss. “Just making sure they weren’t three French hens.”
