Mine
How far will a man go to defend the woman be loves? Find in this hockey romance by H. N. Roberts
I walk into his office doing everything in my power to stay calm. I know my lawyer wanted to come in with me but I needed to say some words to this man that I did not necessarily want my lawyer to be privy to in case of a further lawsuit.
Allan rises up from behind his desk and buttons his jacket giving me a large smile. “Mr. Carter, how may I help you this evening?”
“May I?” I wave to one of the chairs in front of him. If I am sitting it will be a lot harder for me to jump across his desk and strangle him.
“Of course.” He waves me down and unbuttons his jacket again to sit.
Once my ass is in the chair, I realize exactly how much this man craves his power trips. The chairs are purposely cut lower to make the person feel less than. Too bad for him, that I am a large motherfucker. Hell, I barely fit in this tiny ass chair. But sit here I must or my lawyer will be bailing my ass out of jail and that is not his purpose for waiting for me out in the lobby.
Allan steeples his hands on the desk. “I can’t imagine what a large superstar like you would need with someone like me.” He waves around his office. “It is highly doubtful that you don’t already have your own money management team already in place.”
Oh, I definitely do. And there was no way that I would allow this asshole to play with my money. I don’t trust him at all. Not after what he did to my family.
“I actually wanted to talk to you about a personal matter.”
“Personal?” One of his eyebrows quirks up.
“Yeah. About your daughter.” I let that statement sit right there out in the open. I’m intrigued as how he is about to respond.
“I don’t have a daughter,” he tells me with a small chuckle. “You must have me mistaken with someone else.”
“Trust me, I wish I did.” I lean forward and stare at him head on. “You know the kid that you told Avril to get rid of? The one that you threatened the second you realized that she hadn’t.” I rise from the chair to all six foot five of my height. I almost wish I had my skates on so that I could get even taller. “I saw the damn message. You may have been the sperm donor, but that girl is mine.” I lean in on his desk. “M.I.N.E.”
He leans back in his chair and swallows hard. Allan does his best to keep his face passive so as not to show too much emotion. That’s fine. I can play his game. “I don’t know what you are talking about.”
I let out a threatening laugh. “You are not cute. Not in the slightest. She may share your damn DNA, much as I hate it, but Carys and Avril are mine.”
Agitation rolls off of him in waves. “That slut? I haven’t touched her since college.”
I press a finger down deep onto his desk. “That woman you called a slut is about to become my wife. You will have a bit of respect.” I lean in further. “Or I will show exactly how I I have earned my reputation as an enforcer on the Saints.”
“Fuck you.” Allan talks a big game, but I’m bigger.
I let a smile slowly overtake my face. The Joker has nothing on me by the time it reaches its peak. “Nah. You are far from my type. You’d probably scream upon penetration.” I gesture down. “I’m a girthy guy. Don’t think you could handle me at all.” I give him a wink. “And it’s pierced.”
I reach into the back pocket of my pants where I have documents folded up and let them flutter down onto his desk. “Sign.”
He pulls them towards him and swallows hard, but his ego won’t be let go. He leans back in his chair thinking he has me topped. “Looks like I am the one in control here. You need my signature to adopt,” he leans forward to glance at the document again, “Carys.” He steeples his fingers on his stomach when he leans back again. “What are you offering?”
I allow my spine to straighten. I stare down my nose at him from my full height. My fists ball at my sides and I do my level best to keep them from slamming forward into his face. “For me to not kick your ass. For me not to, oh, let’s say, release certain tapes of you and a particular wife of a politician at a fundraiser that you both recently attended.”
“What?” He bursts from his chair like that damn thing lit a spark under his ass. “No.” He takes a steadying breath and straightens his tie down his chest. “I have no idea what you are talking about.”
“Well, you might not, but she’s ready to squeal.” I go to sit on the edge of the guy’s desk and pull out a pen from the inside pocket of suit jacket. “She is more than ready to let everyone know that you took advantage of her in her drunken state after I showed her the video.”
“I did no such thing.”
“Not what the tape looks like.”
We stare each other down while the pen hangs in my hand between us. Eventually, he reaches out and grabs it swiping his name and initials across all the marked areas. Picking up both he tosses them at me. “Get the fuck out.”
“With pleasure.” I take the two items I brought in with me and tuck them back into their respective places. “Nice doing business with you.”
I make my way to his door and don’t bother to look back once. When I leave my lawyer stands up from where he has been perched on the waiting room couch. I hand him the document. “File that as soon as possible.”
He gives me a nod and I look over at the woman who stands there nibbling her thumb nail. I reach out and tag her hand as we head toward the elevator. “C’mon, baby. Let’s go. It’s over. You, and your daughter, you’re mine now. Forever.”
“Forever,” Avril repeats. “Just the way I like it.”
The elevator doors close us into the small space and I tug her into me. My lips seal on hers. We don’t separate until the doors reopen on the bottom floor. “Love you, baby.”
Her heads rests on my chest momentarily before we exit making our way into the future that we can finally enjoy together without the past lingering over our heads.
I feel like this could be part of a sports series. And I'd totally read it.
I love how the details are built up in this story until we gain the full picture. This was such an enjoyable read! I love how protective the main character is ♥️
