Sometimes Love
By Sarah Levine
Love is not always
two straws in a milkshake.
Sometimes it’s buying
a party size bag of their
favorite, hard-to-find chips
when you see them at Target.

Love is not always
a movie-worthy date night.
Sometimes it’s waiting to binge
your favorite TV show
so the two of you
can watch it together.
🩷🩷🩷
Love is not always
footsies under the table.
Sometimes it’s walking the dog
after a long day of work
so they don’t have to
go out in the rain.
🩷🩷🩷
Love is not always
rainbows and sunshine.
Sometimes it’s holding hands
as you cry together,
mourning the loss
of a loved one, a job, a dream.
🩷🩷🩷
Love is not always
grand gestures and gifts.
Sometimes it’s just
about being there,
a warm and familiar
place to land.
