The Cezanne Exhibit
By Mike Kreiner
The girl popped her bubblegum loudly. Finally he noticed, she thought.
“You can’t chew gum in here.”
He was cherubic.
“Don’t you wish you could eat one?”
“Huh?”
“The apples. In the painting. Don’t they look delicious?”
“I can’t let you—”
“—Give me your hand.” She placed her gum on his palm.
“Are you flirting with me?” he asked. She was adorable with her pixie cut and her thrift-store overalls.
“Who, me?”
They locked eyes.
[“The museum is closing in fifteen minutes…”]
“Meet me behind The Thinker after your shift. I wanna show you something.”
With that she floated away.
