“Now,” announced the car radio, “an ‘80s favorite – Wham!”

“No!” Dustin and Melanie lunged to change the station. They’d been trying to avoid hearing “Last Christmas” during December.

“Too late.” Melanie slumped. “Game over.”

“It was fun, though.” Gazing at the “closed” sign on the supermarket where they worked, Dustin ignored his sweaty palms. “You were cute wearing earbuds every day.”

“Really?”

Dustin turned. “I stayed in the game for you.” Melanie’s shy grin brought a flush to his cheeks. Someone special? Absolutely.

Dustin leaned in, and Melanie met him halfway. He gave her a kiss – and his heart.
