What The Heart Needs
By Shontay Luna
I need him to love me
because he wants me.
Wanting me even more
after the initial storm
of Lust has sated itself.
I want him to be madly
in love with the beauty
of how my mind operates,
my soul shines and then
with my beauty in general.
I need him to be held in
ceaseless wonder at the
very sight of me. The same
way a city dweller reflects
upon the mystery of the
countryside. And the countryside,
upon seeing them for the first time,
whispers their name in brazen
winds.
I want love like Autumn’s promise,
full of rustling leaves in sunset hues
and crisply curt breezes that abound
the landscape without a care in the
world as they skirt and flirt
themselves around me.
I love that kind of love, even more than
I realize. The words lay contentedly in
wait for the kiss of my pen to bring them to
life. Within sentences stating the reality
within my imagined world, my love is
waiting. He’s wondrous, gorgeous,
attentive. More than enough for me.

Fantastic piece Shontay- I especially loved these lines 'The words lay contentedly in
wait for the kiss of my pen to bring them to
life. Within sentences stating the reality
within my imagined world, my love is
waiting' I'm sure all writers can relate to this. Look forward to reading more of your work 😊
This is a beautiful poem, and not only is it lovely in sound and flow, you have accomplished the impossible: You have described love.
